Firefighter Testing

Please Review All Information Below Carefully

  • It is up to the applicant to book their own testing date and proactively pass this evaluation in anticipation of upcoming job recruitments. Departments will no longer book dedicated testing days.
  • It is up to the applicant to ensure that successful completion of the University of Alberta evaluation is the correct credential that they require.
  • Upon successful completion, results are valid for 6 months (consult with your organization for details about the validity period).
  • These testing spots:
    • Will fill on a first come first serve basis.
    • Will close for registration 10 days in advance of the testing day.
    • Will take about 4 hours to complete from check-in to checkout.
    • Will have assigned start times based on if the AM or PM block of tests is selected.
    • Will have start times assigned based on the following times and the number of individuals registered for that day
      • 0800, 0830, 0915, 1000, 1045, 1130, 1215, 1300, 1330, or 1400
  • On the day of your test please confirm with the testing staff which department(s) you will be applying to. We will record this information and obtain your consent to authenticate and share the results when they are needed.

Registration Fee & Cancellation Policy

  • Registration Fee: $399.00 plus GST ($418.95)
  • Refunds: There is a non-refundable $150 fee for all registrations. Partial refunds will be available if appointments are cancelled at least two-weeks before the date of your test. If cancellation occurs within two weeks of the date of your test a physician's note is required to obtain a partial refund.
  • Rescheduling: Applicants must reschedule their own appointments. Please cancel your existing appointment then choose from any remaining sessions on the registration website.
  • We do not retain credit for cancelled appointments

Physical Aptitude Evaluation


The Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Evaluation is designed to test your strength, endurance, and readiness to join the ranks of Alberta’s firefighting professionals.

Edmonton (EFRS) Only


Book your Physical Aptitude Test for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Registration opens June 1 at 9 AM and is for EFRS invited participants only.

Experience Sessions


Experience Sessions provide an opportunity to experience some of the physical demands of the U of A test without replicating the exact testing procedures.
